Nov 1 Missouri Trout Season Closes - The last day of October marks the end of the open Missouri trout season. Montauk never closes, however, several facilities will be winterized. The lodge limits its hours to Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shower houses in the campground are closed as the vault toilet is opened near loop four, and fishing is not allowed in any section of the park until the catch and release season starts on the second Friday of November. Nov 2 thru 21 Give Thanks by Giving Back - The library will collect nonperishable food items during regular operating hours from Monday, November 2nd through Saturday, November 21st. For safety reasons, we ask for only in-date items and no rusty or dented cans. All food collected will be donated to His Place to be distributed within our local community. Nov 7 Hike to Honor Veterans - This hike will begin with a brief flag ceremony at 10 a.m. at Rocky Falls in honor of our veterans. Pack a lunch and hike 2.5 miles on the Ozark Trail to the top of Stegall Mountain. Following lunch, participants will hike back to Rocky Falls, for a total distance of five miles.10 a.m.573-323-4236

Nov 13 Catch and Release Trout Season Opens - he second Friday in November marks the opening of the annual winter "Catch and Release" no creel trout season at Montauk State Park. Fishing allowed Friday through Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Dorman L. Steelman Lodge restaurant, snack bar, and store will be open on Friday through Sunday for limited hours of each weekend during the winter season to accommodate visitors. Some housekeeping cabins, motel rooms, and a meeting room will be available throughout the winter season.Montauk State Park573-548-2201
Nov 13 Sailor's Whisk - Small brooms in the days of wind and sail were often made from bits of rope. One such broom was called a Sailor's Whisk. This traditional naval skill will be taught by Wayne Douglass, an authentic sailor! Using rope, each whisk broom will be formed using special knots that make each unique, resulting in a useful item or memborable gift! All supplies and instruction will be provided for anyone from eight to eighty to learn and take home a finished product. Nov 21 Honoring our Heroes Marathon - 26.2 mile marathon from the Dent County Commons, Salem down 72 ending at the Lions Club Park, Rolla. A half marathon and 5K will also take place. 100% of proceeds benefit veterans. Nov 21 Prairie Hollow Gorge Hike - Prairie Hollow Gorge is a hidden gem within the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, located on State Highway V east of Eminence, approximately 1/2 mile before the Two Rivers Campground. Hikers will have a chance to view the gorge from above and from the bottom of the canyuon, for a total hiking distance of approximately 1.5 miles. The gorge provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the geologic history of the Ozarks.10 a.m.573-323-4236

Nov 28 Community Jam - The Salem Area Arts Council will be hosting a community acoustic jam at the Creative Arts Center behind the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center (ONCRC) in Salem on Saturday, November 28, 2020 starting at 6:30 p.m. Musicians and listeners of all ages and talents and interests are invited. Bring your instrument and play along with the crew, or just come to listen and pat your feet! NO talent needed, just enthusiasm! Bluegrass, country, folk, gospel, modern ballads, oldies—you name it, you will probably hear it! We do need to be cautious and use safe practices, but gloves and masks are not required, just common sense. There is no cost but your time. The Creative Arts Center is behind the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street in Salem (Highway 19 next door to the Farmers’ Market) in Salem.
