Bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. Sep 3 Timber Fun Day & Parade - Timber Fun Day - You won't want to miss this year's Timber Fun Day & Parade on Labor Day. Parade entries line up and leave the Dent County Commons at 10:30 traveling down Hwy 72 to Hwy 32 then Hwy 32 to McArthur. Parade begins at 11:00 AM at Hwy 32 and McArthur, continuing down MacArthur to 4th Street ending at the Dent County Courthouse. Following the parade a "free" Timber Fun Day begins at noon at the Commons. The activities include fun games for children, hands on activities such as crosscut sawing, exhibits which include shingle and rail splitting, and musical entertainment. Sep 6 Sky Watch - The next "sky watch" viewing event at the BoneBrake Center of Nature and History starting at 7:30pm. The Dent County Astronomers will give you great views of the Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mars. This experimental Sky Watch Event will not have the moon like its predeccors. This should give you a bette offvieew oodim objects. In addition to all the solar system objects, you''ll also see some of the spring and summer constellations, like Hercules and Cygnus. The telescopes will help you zoom in to see dense star clusters, stars being born, stars dying and double star systems. The "Kid Powered Telescopes" will be in operation for this event. Sep 13 Community Wellness Expo - A free community event to showcase the wellness of ourselves and our community. There will be interactive booths with hospitals, doctors’ offices, eye doctors, chiropractors, dentists, first responders, along with additional health providers. Sep 13 Stained Glass Workshop Next in a Series - These workshops typically held on the second Thursday of each month at the Creative Arts Center in Salem or as long as there is an interest. These workshops are especially designed for individuals wanting to create a stained-glass piece that will take several sessions to complete, although individuals only wanting to do a small project that can be completed in one night may also come. Led by artist and art teacher Amber Pryor, all materials are provided to make a take home. There is a maximum enrollment of 8, so register early. The cost is $25 per session and reservations can be made by calling the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at (573) 729-0029 or calling/texting (573) 247-0279 and arranging to pay your fee to hold your spot. Sep 15 thru 16 Missouri Trout Fisherman’s Association Tournament - The tournament is open to all visitors. Register to participate in the derby at the Dorman L. Steelman Lodge on Friday night between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., or on Saturday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Anglers entering the tournament will pay an entry fee and prizes will be awarded for tagged fish caught during the derby. Slack-jawed yokel, or hard-working, resourceful folks? Discover your own Ozark heritage and even try your hand in the “Hillbilly Olympics!” This program is appropriate for all ages and is especially family-friendly. The class will teach participants how to make apple butter over an open fire and how to safely finish it by using a water bath for the canning process.
