Oct 1 Breast Cancer Awareness March - Take a Walk with us on October 1st- Walk starts at Salem Christian Church lawn at 11:45 with police escort down 4th street and around the courthouse square. Wear your SMDH Breast Cancer Awareness Shirt(or any other Pink Shirt) in Support of those who have been taken, Survived, or are Currently Fighting Breast Cancer.Salem Memorial District Hospital will be selling Breast Cancer Awareness T Shirts until September 5 raise money that will fund Mammograms for Local Uninsured Women who will fund Mammograms for Local Uninsured Women who otherwise would not be able to afford have one. Oct 5 B.A.R.K Ranger Hike - Bring your furry, four-legged friends and join a Park Ranger for a short hike around Big Spring. Following the hike all dogs will be officially sworn in as Ozark National Scenic Riverways B.A.R.K. Rangers and given an exclusive Riverways B.A.R.K. Ranger bandana. More and more people are traveling and recreating with their pets. This event celebrates dogs and promotes getting outside for a walk with your pet in a nearby national park. B.A.R.K. Ranger programs teach responsible pet visitation to national parks, so both pet owners and their pets have a more rewarding experience. Participants will learn about the B.A.R.K. code of ethics when visiting Ozark National Scenic Riverways with their canine: Bag your waste Always wear a leash Respect wildlife Know where you can go Pet waste collection bags will be provided. All dogs must remain on a six-foot leash at all times. Retractable leashes are discouraged unless they can be limited to a six-foot range. Oct 11 thru 12 SHS Alumni Weekend - The 4th Annual SHS Alumni Weekend will start with Friday Night Lights as the Tigers face off against Mountain Grove at 7 PM and homecoming festivities. Volunteers will be selling shirts. Saturday: Pancake Breakfast at the SHS, Salem Tiger Youth Football games at 10 & 11, Softball and baseball game at 2 pm at Al Brown fields. Oct 12 Fall Ride for America - This ride will be enjoyable with some beautiful country side. We will be staging this ride out of Danny Blacks farm. To get to the farm from Salem take 19 s to HWY B, turn east on Hwy B and proceed 7.8 miles to CR 5380, turn right on 5380 and proceed 1.6 miles. Over 70 miles of riding. Gate will open at 7 am and all vehicles need to be back to the farm by 6 pm. There will be a party for registrants with music and food provided after the ride. $30 per vehicle8-5Black Farm729-1394

Oct 24 Fall Fun on Fourth Street - Businesses along Fourth Street have fun fall activities planned throughout the month! Volunteers from Friends of the Library will have a carnival game for children in the parking lot between noon and 3:00 PM on Saturday the 19th. On Thursday the 24th, representatives from downtown businesses will be set up for early trick-or-treating along Jackson Street in front of the library.
