Mar 20 Gift of Grace Annual Banquet for Life - Our center is now in its sixteenth year of providing compassionate, life-affirming services that empower individuals to make healthy, positive choices related to pregnancy, parenting, and relationships to many in Dent County and the surrounding area. Our programs and services are designed to impact critical issues facing our community such as positive parenting, healthy pregnancies, lack of education, child abuse and neglect, and father involvement. We are a 501c (3) organization. Our services are provided at no cost to those we serve. We are thankful for the many individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations who have financially partnered with us in the past as we have worked to affirm life and strengthen families. Without our community support it would be impossible to meet many of the needs of our clients. Please consider partnering with us financially in 2018 by becoming a banquet sponsor for our upcoming Annual Banquet for Life on March 20, 2018 at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. This is our largest fundraiser of the year with the proceeds from the event and our sponsorships providing us with a significant portion of our operating budget for the year. All proceeds benefit the mission of Riverways Pregnancy & Family Resource Center, a Pro-Life Pregnancy Center. Our sponsors will be recognized at our event at the entrance, on the printed programs and the video screen by sponsorship level. The sponsorship form may be detached and returned to Riverways Pregnancy Resource Center, PO Box 253, Salem, MO 65560 with a check no later than March 9, 2018. Mar 22 Another Sky Event! Skywatch at the Bonebrake Center - Come to the Bonebrake Center of Nature and History on Thursday, March 22, 2018 to experience views of the solar system and the galaxy. The event will run from 7:00 to about 8:30 p.m. The ever popular Dent County Astronomers will be on site using powerful telescopes, including the Bonebrake Center’s kid/adult-friendly telescopes, dubbed “Charles” and “Shirley,” to explore the early spring sky. As we start our event, the crescent Moon will be very high in the southern sky. We can zoom in to see how the line between sunlight and shadow -- the terminator -- slowly creeps across the Moon's surface. We'll see some lunar craters, seas, and hills, too. The trio of craters -- Catharina, Cyrillus, and Theophilus -- will demonstrate how craters age under the constant bombardment by meteors. In the twilight, we should see the planet Venus low in the west. It will shine bright even though it's very far from us. Venus's bright clouds will send us a lot of their sunlight. We'll also have great chance to explore the winter constellations -- Gemini (the twins), Auriga (the charioteer), Canis Major (the big dog), and the very famous Orion (the hunter). We'll view the beautiful cluster of stars known at the Pleiades or Seven Sisters. We'll look at the Orion Nebula to see a star nursery with fledgling stars. And you'll get magnified views of stars like Castor, Sirius, Almach, and Betelgeuse to see what distinguishes these stars. Maybe we'll see a passing satellite or a speeding meteor, too. We'll use telescopes, lasers, and your eyes to help explore the night sky. All you need to bring is your imagination (and warm gloves). We'll provide you with free astronomy information so you can continue to enjoy our nights sky after you go home. Our events welcome all ages, and young visitors can have a turn at aiming the Kid Powered Telescope provided by the Bonebrake Center. To enjoy the night sky, we need clear sky and safe footing. So we'll monitor the weather as the event approaches, so be sure to check for cancellation due to unusable or unsafe conditions. Skywatches are always fun, with handouts, answers to questions, and sometimes a surprise or two! Dress for the weather, and come enjoy the views and experience a tour of the sky. This program is appropriate for the whole family and will be mostly outdoors. There will be access to the house and light snacks. The suggested donation is $1.00 per person or $5.00 for the whole family, but no one will be turned away. Registration is not required, but feel free to leave a message at the Bonebrake Center (573.729.3400) or e-mail at for more information. If it appears the night sky will be too cloudy, the program will be postponed. Registrants may call or text 573-247-0279 on the afternoon of Thursday, March 22 if there is a question about possible cancellation. 7:00-8:00 pmBonebrake Center of Nature and History247-0279
