Sep 1 thru 2 4th Annual Salem Chamber Rodeo - MRCA/URA Outlaw Rodeo Production - Labor Day Weekend (Saturday & Sunday night). MRCA/URA Rodeo by Outlaw Rodeo Productions. Advance tickets will be on sale prior to event. $8 adult $4 child advance or $10 adult and $5 child at the gate. Bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. A kids' boot toss and calf scramble will take place each night for children 10 and under. Advance ticket holders can enter for chance to win a Amazon Tablet each night of the rodeo. Sep 3 Timber Fun Day & Parade - Timber Fun Day - You won't want to miss this year's Timber Fun Day & Parade on Labor Day. Parade entries line up and leave the Dent County Commons at 10:30 traveling down Hwy 72 to Hwy 32 then Hwy 32 to McArthur. Parade begins at 11:00 AM at Hwy 32 and McArthur, continuing down MacArthur to 4th Street ending at the Dent County Courthouse. Following the parade a "free" Timber Fun Day begins at noon at the Commons. The activities include fun games for children, hands on activities such as crosscut sawing, exhibits which include shingle and rail splitting, and musical entertainment. Sep 15 thru 16 Missouri Trout Fisherman’s Association Tournament - The tournament is open to all visitors. Register to participate in the derby at the Dorman L. Steelman Lodge on Friday night between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., or on Saturday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Anglers entering the tournament will pay an entry fee and prizes will be awarded for tagged fish caught during the derby. Sep 26 thru 28 Management Intensive Grazing School - University of MO to host this three day program which includes guest speakers covering topics of grazing system layout and design, watering systems, fence systems, soil fertility, livestock nutrition and forage growth and quality. Farm tours will be included to allow participants to receive training on grazing system utilization. Sep 28 The Real Ozark Hillbilly - Hosted by Janet Price, naturalist, of MoonShadow Moments, LLC, formerly of Johnson’s Shut-Ins, participants learn about what it is to be a REAL hillbilly. Slack-jawed yokel, or hard-working, resourceful folks? Discover your own Ozark heritage and even try your hand in the “Hillbilly Olympics!” This program is appropriate for all ages and is especially family-friendly. The cost is $1.00 per person or $5.00/family, regardless of the number, which includes a light snack. Phone reservations are requested to plan for snacks and activities. Sep 29 Making Apple Butter- the old fashioned way - The class is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The class will teach participants how to make apple butter over an open fire and how to safely finish it by using a water bath for the canning process. This is a hands-on class and participants can take the food they canned home!
