Jun 17 thru Aug 2 "The Current River" - The Salem Area Arts Council will host this exhibit featuring old photographs of the river and its people living and gathering at the river. The last 50 years of the river and the park service''s efforts at preservation will be depicted. Jul 4 4th of JULY Parade - Come join us for our community's Fourth of July "It's Still a Grand Old Flag" parade beginning at 6:00 p.m. This year's Grand Marshal is Lieutenant General William G. "Jerry" Boykin. Former Commander of the U.S. Army Special Forces he commanded the Delta Force Team as told in the film, 'Black Hawk Down.' The General will be speaking about our country's history and why our flag is still important at Dent County Commons beginning at 7:30 PM. Dent County Commons will be the location for the FIREWORKS which begin at dark. New Harmony is providing kids inflatables at the Commons. All entrants must fill out a parade "entry form" and return form to the chamber office not later than June 26. Jul 5 thru Sep 29 The Dent County Museum - "Step Back In Time" as you wander through three floors of Ozark history. The Victorian style house museum was built in 1895 and has all the original woodwork. Visit and view the Ozark culture of our ancestors. The museum is open from 1 PM - 4 PM each Sunday, May through last Sunday in September. Jul 7 Live Hummingbird Banding Demonstration - Free Live Hummingbird Banding Demonstration - This is a very unique opportunity to get a close-up look at the ruby-throated hummingbird. Jul 13 It's Okay to Get Outside - Its OK To Get Outside! - The annual "It's OK To Get Outside!" special youth learning days are planned for two dates this summer at the Bonebrake Center. These all-day events will include many concurrent sessions and lots of outdoor activities led by representatives of several regional agencies and organizations, all geared toward helping kids finish the requirements for their Ozark Kids' Connection (OK) award. There will be stream clean-ups, pond critter-collecting, habitat projects, nature hikes, gardening, interpretive programs, music, and stations to help them identify various items (animals, plants, famous people, artifacts, etc.) relevant to Ozark nature or history. These events are free of charge and families with kids are invited to attend either or both days. Jul 16 MOTHER GOOSE--GOES BUGGY - MOTHER GOOSE GOES BUGGY Mother Goose returns to talk about the world of insects and arachnids, the good, bad, and ugly! This is the second of a series of monthly visits Ms. Goose is making to the Bonebrake Center this summer, each focusing on a different part of the natural world. There will be information, a few stories, a couple of songs, snacks, and maybe a short walk close to the house, depending on the weather. This program is especially designed for preschoolers, toddlers, and up to early elementary-school aged children. Therer is a cost for family, which includes a light snack. Phone reservations requested to plan for materials and snacks.
