The City of Salem Planning and Zoning Commission consists of eleven members. The Commission studies the subdivisions of land and future development of the city. Recommendations are taken to the Board of Aldermen concerning the designations of the various zoning districts and the appropriate regulations and restrictions that should be contained in the zoning code.
The Board of Adjustments meets on an as-needed basis to hear appeals for requests on variances. The Board of Adjustment members are Trudy Hale, Chair, Rob Benowitz, John Whelan and Jim Parks. Members are appointed by the mayor and approved by the board of alderman.
