Dent County, Missouri is well known among sportsmen for exceptional deer and turkey hunting. Due to an abundance of prime habitat and public land, hunters throughout the region come to Dent County for a chance at a trophy buck or gobbler. Salem area businesses go out of their way each hunting season to make sure that hunters are comfortable and well-fed, so that a growing number of hunters are repeat visitors year after year.




In addition to trophy trout fishing on the Current River, area streams, lakes, and ponds offer small mouth and large mouth bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and sunfish. It is not at all unusual to catch an eight to ten pound bass from an area farm pond. There are many fine fishing lakes and ponds in Dent County operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Mark Twain National Forest that are open to the public. Be sure to get permission before hunting or fishing on private land.
