Current home of Red Hen Café (Block 10)

In this building one of Salem’s first saloons operated at the turn of the century.  The owner/operator of the saloon was James Lafayette Chambers.  He was also a Sheriff of Dent County in the years 1894 and 1896.  In 1952-1958 Hazel and Bob Polk (mother and son) had “Polk’s Café”. Ruby Davis had “Davis Café” from 1958-1969.  There have been many other businesses throughout the years such as Daylight Donuts, Woodward Café, Spring Creek Café, a music recording studio, and Ragan’s Bakery.  Red Hen Café is the current occupant.
