Present a valid government-issued photo ID.
Registered, but don't have a valid photo ID? Vote a provisional ballot or you can get a valid ID free/no charge by going to www.sos.mo.gov or calling toll free at 866-868-3245 for help or questions.

Registration and Absentee Deadlines:
Last day to register for any election: Fourth Wednesday prior to election
Last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed: 2nd Wednesday prior to election
Last day to vote absentee in person: Monday before election
Last day to vote no excuse absentee in person: Monday before election

  • Absentee ballots may not be carried out by anyone
  • Absentee ballots may be returned by mail or in person
  • Persons in the military or persons requesting absentee ballots due to illness or physical confinement or caretakers of persons who are ill or disabled are not required to have their ballot notarized. All other absentee ballots must be notarized.

Absentee Voting Information:
Persons eligible to vote absentee:
Any registered voter of this state may vote absentee ballot if he or she expects to be prevented from going to the polls due to:

  • Absence from county
  • Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including caring for person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability
  • Religious belief or practice
  • Employment as or by an election authority at a location other than your polling place, a first responder, a health care worker, or a member of law enforcement
  • Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained
  • Certified participation in the address confidentiality program established under sections 589.660 to 589.681 because of safety concerns 
No Excuse Absentee Voting:
Begins 2 weeks prior to an election and ends the Monday before the election.

Persons in Federal Service:
Any person in federal service who is eligible to register and vote in this state may vote even if they are not registered.
Any person who is authorized to vote for federal officers by federal law may vote by absentee ballot for president, vice president, U.S. Senator, representative in Congress and statewide elected officials without being registered. Such person shall make application for an absentee ballot not later than 5:00 P.M. on the 2nd Wednesday before the election.

Persons moving from one county to another:
Any registered voter who moves from one county to another county in the state after the books close may vote by ballot after registering in his new jurisdiction of residence. 

Application for Absentee Ballot
Application may be made by the applicant in person, by mail, fax, email or for the applicant in person by his or her guardian or a relative within the second degree by consanguinity of affinity.

Election Schedules
Primary Elections are held on the first Tuesday, after the first Monday in August and the General Elections are held the first Tuesday, after the first Monday in November. See Election Calendar.
